Foreign Video Standards Conversion

Creative AV actually began as a foreign standards conversion business in 1988.  At that time, ¾” U-Matic, Betamax, and VHS were the only video formats readily available to the public.  Many foreign videos were recorded in the PAL system which was used in Europe, Africa, Australia, India, China and other countries.  NTSC was primarily the American system and was used throughout North and Central America as well as most countries that were possessions or closely aligned with the United States like Japan, Taiwan and Korea.  A third standard SECAM and its variations was developed by the French for use only in France and certain middle east countries.  It was not very popular and eventually was abandoned in favor of the more accepted PAL system.

Because each of these systems uses a different recording standard, they are incompatible in several ways and conversion of the signals is necessary if the recordings are to be played in a foreign country. The equipment itself has some very basic differences. For example, in Europe electricity flows at around 220 volts and all appliances including videotape equipment must match that voltage. Their plugs do not match our sockets and ours don’t match theirs.  This is by design so that we Americans won’t go to Europe and plug our 110 volt appliance into 220 volts. That would damage the appliance probably permanently.

These days we still have the need for standards conversion although it is not as widespread.  Since the development of the DVD, international standards converter is state of the art and includes the most advanced technology available for conversion of videos. We convert between PAL and NTSC in the professional video format known as BETACAM SP, as well as digital formats such as Mini-DV and DVCAM and of course all the consumer formats including VHS, VHS-C, Betamax (home beta) 8MM, Hi-8MM and Digi-8 cassettes. The technology allows us to perform numerous adjustments to the picture including, noise reduction, color correction and control of the hue and sharpness. Drop shipment of converted titles to broadcast facilities overseas is typically part of the conversion package. We ship daily via Fed Ex, UPS, and other international shippers.

Non-linear Editing

We offer non-linear editing at very affordable rates in our lab. Projects include photo montage, promotional videos, talent and athletic videos for colleges and more. Special event videos such as product presentations, demonstrations, speeches, classes, plays, concerts, parties and more are edited with precision while bringing a creative approach to every project.

Our montage package includes scanning of slides or photos (up to 80 images), editing, titles, custom music and dvd labels. The base price for this montage package is only $375.00. Turnaround can be as soon as ten days in some cases. The finished project is available in either PAL or NTSC standard on any of the formats listed in above.
